At Doxie View Acres we keep Miniature Nubian goats, and in our opinion, they are the most ideal for raw goat milk! Mini Nubians are a cross of Nigerian Dwarf goats, known to have high butterfat percentage in their milk, and Nubian goats, high content milk producers. The result of this cross? Deliciously smooth milk with the just the right amount of creaminess.

In addition to their spray free hay, our goats all have access to a free choice mineral bar that includes 20 loose minerals and additional herbal supplements. This means their bodies are never deficient in any way and have natural protection from excessive parasites. From shiny coats to delicious milk, we continue to see the benefits of this intuitive system.

While in milk, our mommas receive organic alfalfa and a grain ration. We first began with using Kalmbach’s Milk Maker grain, but will be trying out a new, all-organic milk ration this year that will include organic barley, oats, and field peas.

Raw milk is a superfood, and goat’s milk being A2/A2, our human bodies can most naturally digest it. For more information on raw goat milk and its benefits, click here.

Invest in a herdshare!

Michigan law prohibits the sale of raw milk, but does allow for herdshare programs.

MDARD: Policy # 1.40 (2013)

A herdshare allows a consumer to purchases a share in a dairy herd, in our case a goat herd. The farmer and the consumer enter into a contract whereby the farmer feeds and boards the animals and provides the labor to milk the animals and store the consumer’s milk. The consumer does not buy milk from the farmer; rather, they pay the farmer for the service of keeping the animals and her labor for milking. Herdshare programs share the farmers’ liability since the animals belong to the consumers and the consumers are drinking the milk from their own animals.
